We have all seen those pictures on instagram or pinterest of the classic “exploring Santorini” in a third person POV, but now it’s your turn to visit Santorini, and naturally like all curious humans you want to experience the most, if not all of Santorini during your visit.

Santorini is located in the Aegean sea, and it is actually a combination of Islands. Its beautiful blue roofs and spectacular views make it an absolute explorers dream.

If you have ever wondered what are the must-do things to do in Santorini, we have you covered. Here is our list of the 15 absolute must-do things to do in Santorini.

Explore Fira

Fira is the capital of Santorini. Let yourself wander and get lost in the cobble stoned pathways of the city that boasts beautiful picturesque cliff-top views facing the Nea Kameni, a still-active volcano toward the west of the Island.

Hike from Fira to Oia

Follow the 9 KM trail from Fira to Oia that is blessed with beautiful views of the caldera, with Oia being the iconic city with the dome shaped blue roof buildings. This hike from Fira to Oia will change your opinion of Santorini being only beautiful walls and pools (if that is what you think of it while you read this)

Dinner with a view

Why would you go all the way to Santorini and return without having a beautiful dinner with the view of the caldera? The Athenian House, located in Imerovigli provides the perfect solution to this pleasant problem.

Ammoudi Bay swim and dinner

Known as one of the best swimming spots in Santorini, Ammoudi Bay is a spot south of Ammoudi port when you descend the cliffs of Oia.

Ammoudi is also renowned for its delicious food and hospitality. You will find plenty of restaurants offering a wide range of fresh seafood as you surround yourself with the islands magic.

ATV exploration of the Island

Santorini is not a very big island, thus making it quite accessible all around via ATV, and yes, you can rent out ATV’s.

On average, renting an ATV would cost you about 45 euros and they are available in almost every major town.

Visit the real Atlantis (Akrotiri Sites)

The lost center of the island of Thera (now Santorini) is long considered the lost city of Atlantis that was lost due to a catastrophic volcanic eruption.

Sites like the Akrotiri sites have been excavated that let you dive into the island’s past.

Visit Nea Kameni

Nea Kameni is the active volcano that forms the center of the Santorini islands. Although active, the volcano is considered to be “sleeping”.

You can hop aboard a local boat or even sail there on your own. When you reach the island, hop into your hiking shoes and head to the top of the volcano

Akrotiri Lighthouse

The view of the caldera from the Akrotiri Lighthouse is a very famous thing to do in Santorini.

Located in the southern end of Santorini, the lighthouse is a frequent amongst tourists.

What sets this view apart from the views of the caldera from Fira and Oia is the fact that this view visually shows the circular nature of the caldera.

You are on an Island, why wouldn’t you sail around it? Sailing is considered one of the biggest must-dos when in Santorini. You can even jet ski around the island if you want to but we suggest you sail in a more relaxed manner.

Explore Pyrgos

A small village south of Fira, it’s home to a little more than a thousand people. The village is built on top of a hill and boasts Instagram-worthy backgrounds everywhere. If you are looking for a little charm, exploring Pyrgos is a must.

Explore Megalochori

Unlike Fira & Oia, Megalochori isn’t rushed by tourists, making it an ideal spot should you want to get away from the crowds.

Located south of Pyrgos and west of Prophet Elias Monastery, it’s a beautiful location worth a couple of hours of exploration.

Santorini Beaches (Black & Red)

Santorini is home to beautiful beaches. One of these beaches is known as the Perivolos Beach or “Black Beach”. The beach gets its name from its black sand and beautiful sparkling waters that are inviting to say the least.

One of the other beautiful beaches is known as the “Red Beach”. It is located near the Akrotiri Village. The beach gets its name from its red sand and its steep red cliffs. This beach too boasts beautiful clear waters.
